About Austin E. Thompson, Jr.

Austin E. Thompson, Jr. was born in the village of Lodge, Georgetown, Republic of Guyana (formerly British Guiana), South America, and migrated to the United States in 1977. He spent 15 years in Brooklyn (East New York and Flatbush), New York, before relocating to Atlanta, Georgia in 1992. Austin now resides in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In addition to overseeing a management consulting business, Austin is an Adjunct Professor at Shorter University (formerly Shorter College) teaching project management and business classes to undergraduate business majors in the College of Adult and Professional Programs.

Austin holds membership in the Project Management Institute (PMI), and is a member of the Atlanta and Southern Caribbean Chapters, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), and National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA). In his spare time, Austin enjoys volunteering actively with the Latin America Association, and with other non-profit organizations such as the 100 Black Men of DeKalb. His other pastime favorites include reading, mentoring youth, public speaking, Latin dancing, music, global politics and economics, networking, meeting new people of various cultures, technology and science, tinkering with electronics, conducting business planning and professional development workshops, and attending social activities. Austin’s favorite motto, among others, is his own “failure is NOT an option.” To give up and submit to defeat without trying is never to have committed your full potential!!! In April 2012, Austin was elected by registered voters in the 7th Congressional District of Georgia as a District-Level Delegate to the Democratic National Convention, and is currently expanding his political endeavors on a state and national level from his base in Gwinnett County. His public speaking topics focuses on personal development, motivation, and various business topics for entrepreneurs.

There are several book proposals currently in his publishing pipeline. Austin is a proud graduate of Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University, where he earned a Master of Project Management degree with honors, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications Management and an Associates of Applied Science degree in Electronics. He will begin his Doctoral degree in International Business and Organizational Leadership in the fall of 2013.
